Pantry to Dinner
← All recipesFROM THE PANTRY TO THE TABLEWarm apple cinnamon oatmeal
Soft cooked apple and oats in a warm breakfast bowl.
These are familiar home meals, not a medical diet. Before cooking for someone facing illness, check their allergies and follow their care team’s advice about food, texture and dietary restrictions.
Quantities adjust for 1–8 people. For larger portions, use a larger pan or cook in batches; allow extra time. For partial cans, measure that fraction of the contents. Season to taste.
What you’ll need
“In pantry” checks names, not available quantities. Edit your pantry.
- rolled oats1 cup
- milk2 cups
- apple1, peeled and grated
- cinnamon¼ tsp
- maple syrup2 tsp
Water is not counted as a pantry ingredient. Dietary labels refer to the specified ingredients; check packaged products for allergens and suitability.
Let’s cook
- Combine the milk and grated apple in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
- Stir in oats and cinnamon. Simmer for 7–10 minutes, stirring often so the milk does not catch on the bottom.
- When the oats and apple are soft, remove from heat. Stir in maple syrup.
- Let stand for 2 minutes. Add water or a little extra milk if you prefer a thinner oatmeal.
